Gun Owners of America Support Justin Amash for Congress

Dear Friend of the Second Amendment,

There is no stronger defender of individual liberty in the U.S. House than Representative Justin Amash.

Rep. Amash has a perfect voting record on gun rights issues, and he also works to protect gun owners from ‘backdoor’ gun control attempts.

When the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) came before the House, Rep. Amash recognized the privacy concerns in a bill that greatly expanded federal power.   In response, he authored an amendment to protect gun sales records held by federally licensed gun dealers. 

Specifically, the Amash amendment, which was successfully added to the bill, prohibits the government from accessing firearms sales records, as well as library circulation records, library patron lists, book sales records, book customer lists, tax return records, educational records, and medical records.

This offers an important protection for gun owners, as the government could otherwise access ALL such firearms sales records by simply claiming they are part of an ongoing “terrorism” investigation.

“The government shouldn’t be allowed to spy on the books Americans read or the guns they buy,” said Amash. “We can’t sacrifice core civil liberties in the name of cybersecurity.”

Gun Owners of America applauds to work of Representative Amash, and we are also proud to stand with Justin in his reelection to Congress.
